AREQUIPA
Arequipa is known as the ‘White City’ for its beautiful white walls of sillar, a volcanic stone. Founded in 1540, Arequipa has many colonial mansions, churches and public buildings, such as Santa Catalina Monastery, a convent built in 1579, restored and open to the public in 1970.
Arequipa surroundings have uncountable touristic attractions, such as the Colca and Cotahuasi canyons. In the Colca Valley the agricultural terraces from the Inca period are combined with more than a dozen towns founded in the 16th century.
