IQUITOS / THE JUNGLE

The whole area is covered by dense vegetation, primary and secondary jungles crossed by several rivers of the Amazon basin. Iquitos is the main port of the Amazon River, from where the boats leave towards the various lodges.

Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (2 080.000 has), the largest of the country is located 183 km from the city and is a refuge for many species of animals and plants, many of them endangered like the Charapa turtle, the Giant Otter, the Black Caiman and River dolphins.
